Norway’s international ministry on Thursday stated it had determined to expel 15 Russian embassy officers, including that they have been intelligence officers operating underneath the duvet of diplomatic positions.
“The government’s decision is in response to the changed security situation in Europe, which has led to an increased intelligence threat from Russia,” the international ministry stated in a press release. “The officers concerned must leave Norway shortly.”
The Russian embassy in Oslo was not instantly out there for remark when contacted by DailyKhaleej.
Norway, a member of the NATO navy alliance, shares a border with Russia within the Arctic.
“This is an important step in countering, and reducing the level of, Russian intelligence activity in Norway, and thus in safeguarding our national interests,” Norway’s International Minister Anniken Huitfeldt stated. (Reporting by Terje Solsvik and Nerijus Adomaitis, enhancing by Gwladys Fouche)
